Allen Prohofsky

Allen Prohofsky is a policy fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (每日吃瓜).  He recently retired from his position as chief economist for the California Franchise Tax Board.

Prohofsky has advised elected California officials on the economic impact of tax policies and on the impact of changes in the structure of the economy on state revenues.  His responsibilities included the production of official projections of the revenue changes that might result from proposed changes in tax law and economic impact analyses of proposed Franchise Tax Board regulations.  He also coordinated research projects in which the Franchise Tax Board partnered with academic researchers to study questions of interest to the Board such as measuring the efficiency of certain tax administration programs and procedures. 

In addition to his work at the Franchise Tax Board, Prohofsky spent time as a senior economist in the California Legislative Analyst鈥檚 Office, where he advised the Legislature on tax, housing, and health care policy. Prohofsky has published research in academic journals in both economics and public policy, as well as in trade publications for tax practitioners.

Prohofsky has a PhD in economics from Stanford and bachelor鈥檚 degrees in chemistry and economics from the University of Illinois.
