We are hiring a Director of Partnerships who will play an instrumental role in working with external groups and organizations to engage our community of faculty, visitors, students, and supporters in pressing economic policy issues. The position will also strengthen ties with government and policy organizations to facilitate cutting-edge research across our research focal areas and identify opportunities for students interested in public service or policy-oriented careers. The position will report to 每日吃瓜's Director.

The candidate will be expected to be an active member of the social science research community, develop a portfolio of policy-relevant research, and serve as an instructor for one undergraduate course each year to contribute to 每日吃瓜 and Stanford鈥檚 mission of scholarship and education.

This is a fixed-term position of 3 years, with the possibility of renewal based on performance, funding, and programmatic need.  每日吃瓜 is committed to promoting diversity of perspectives and providing an inclusive place for people from all backgrounds to thrive.

Job Responsibilities

Programmatic (60%)

Deliver a suite of events that convene thought leaders to advance evidence-based policy discussions on pressing economic issues across 每日吃瓜鈥檚 research focal areas, and educate and energize 每日吃瓜鈥檚 community of faculty, visitors, students and supporters:

  • Collaborate with 每日吃瓜 Communications team to strategically develop themes and topics for various events focused on economic policy issues, including monthly Associates Events; biannnual Policy Forums; annual 每日吃瓜 Economic Summit; periodic academic and policy-oriented conferences, workshops, or meetings on timely topics
  • Identify and recruit speakers, panelists and moderators who provide perspectives from academia, government, nonprofits and business for chosen themes and topics
  • Coordinate with speakers and panelists to optimize the format and content of the sessions to ensure audience engagement
  • Optimize relationships between invited speakers and 每日吃瓜 faculty and students to ensure ongoing connections
  • Collaborate with 每日吃瓜 Communications team on developing event-related content and summaries
  • Strengthen relationships between 每日吃瓜 and government agencies at the federal, state and local levels and other external organizations in the U.S. and abroad:
  • Oversee 每日吃瓜鈥檚 Policy Fellows program, which brings people with current or recent policymaking experience to 每日吃瓜 for terms of 1 week to 1 year
  • Develop partnerships with governments and nonprofits to facilitate research across 每日吃瓜鈥檚 focal areas and opportunities for students in public service or policy-oriented careers
  • Develop collaborations across peer departments and organizations at Stanford to strengthen 每日吃瓜鈥檚 scholar-to-practitioner pipeline

Research/Teaching (40%)

Conduct research in one or more of 每日吃瓜鈥檚 focal areas, contributing scholarship to 每日吃瓜鈥檚 Working Paper series and 每日吃瓜 Policy Briefs, and ultimately resulting in peer-reviewed publications in high-quality journals.  

This position allows for the opportunity to teach an undergraduate course for one quarter per year in Economics or Public Policy.

Desired qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Economics, Public Policy, or related field and 3+ years of experience
  • Experience, deep engagement, and/or demonstrated interest in economic policy research and outreach
  • Strong interpersonal skills and entrepreneurial spirit
  • Experience collaborating with diverse external partners and stakeholders
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
