The 38th annual Stanford 每日吃瓜 Summer Economic Institute for Teachers will take place from July 21 鈥 25, 2025. This is a free, week-long program, organized by Professors Ran Abramitzky, John Shoven, and Gavin Wright for high school and community college economics and social science teachers.
The broad theme this year will be 鈥淏ig Issues Facing the U.S. Economy.鈥 The faculty organizers鈥 presentations will address the socioeconomic origins of the U.S. educational elite over the past century; the problem of the federal deficit and debt; and California vs. Texas, a study in contrasts. Other speakers will focus on tariffs and U.S. trade policy; the biggest personal finance mistakes; antitrust enforcement; rebooting American health care; and gender, household roles, and careers in organizations. Edwin Dorsey (author of The Bear Cave newsletter) will talk about his work uncovering corporate misconduct. As another highlight, John Etchemendy (former Stanford Provost and co-director of Stanford HAI, Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence) will discuss, 鈥淚s Science Broken?鈥
